Inside My Classics

Sovietski Collection:: Polish 20-Zloty gold coin (Coins) Polish 20-Zloty gold coin

About the time of the first millennium, King Boleslaw I of Poland was expanding his territory in Eastern Europe. He was crowned the first king of Poland in 1024 and he died only one year later. In 1925, on the 900th anniversary of his death, Poland minted these .900 pure gold 20-Zloty coins. Obverse features profile of King Boleslaw I and the 900-year anniversary dates. Reverse shows the magnificent Polish eagle crown and the denomination.

Gadget Universe:: Roman Empire Coin Collection (Coins) Roman Empire Coin Collection

At one time the Roman Empire extended from Britain to Persia and was the most powerful civilization on this earth. The first time I saw this Roman Empire Coin Collection, I was simply awestruck. Imagine: 20 authentic coins dating back to the 3rd and 4th centuries C.E., carefully preserved for all time. I've seen coins like these in museums, but never thought I'd be able to offer them at Gadget Universe. Each collection comes in a handsome, handcrafted walnut box with brass trim and plaque, and an accompanying Book full of information about the Emperors whose portraits adorn the coins. A Certificate of Authenticity further adds to the value of the set. This is an important collection, one any serious antique collector or historian would prize. I am extremely proud to offer it to you.

American Historic Society:: Roman Silver Coin (Coins) Roman Silver Coin

These well-preserved Silver relics tell the story of the Roman Empire. Dated from the second and third centuries A.D., each coin features a portrait of the ruler under whom it was minted. Our collection includes Septimium Severus, A.D. 193-211; Caracalla, A.D. 198-217; Gordian III, A.D. 238-244, and many more. We'll pick the best specimens available when your order is received. The coins include the silver denarius, which is about the size of a modern quarter, and the silver antoninianus, which is somewhat larger. All are priced to sell quickly, so order right away. 1378

American Historic Society:: The Lucky French Gold Angel Coin - Each (Coins) The Lucky French Gold Angel Coin

It's stunningly beautiful and .900 Pure Gold. Yet what makes this 100-year-old French Gold Angel one of the world's most sought-after coins is its reputation for bringing luck to its owner. It started during the French Revolution, when Augustine Dupre, the coin's designer, credited his escape from the guillotine to the 20-Franc Gold Angel in his pocket. Napoleon Bonaparte is said to have carried the lucky coin until he lost it the day before his defeat at Waterloo! In fact, it's amazing good fortune that you can own this Gold Angel, which was minted from 1871-1898. Most classic European Gold coins were melted during the world wars and again when gold prices skyrocketed in the 1980's. A hoard of Gold Angels has been discovered in Europe - perhaps your last chance to acquire this "lucky" 90% Pure Gold coin in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. 3386, 4598, 4584

Worldwide Treasure Bureau:: Set of Both Coins (Coins) Set of Christian Coins

About a thousand years ago, the Byzantine (Eastern Roman) Empire began minting gold coins carrying a portrait of Christ on the obverse, with the emperor's portrait on the reverse. These wonderful gold pieces are heavy with Christian symbolism. Christ is surrounded by a nimbus (from the Latin for "cloud"), a circle of light radiating from his head, and holds a book of gospels in his left hand. These are among the first in a series of scyphate (cup-shaped) coins, a fascinating departure in the history of Byzantine coin design and minting, and because of the convex shape of the coin, Christ's halo seems to glow an effect that was most likely intentional. We have two different types available, each of which was minted under a different Byzantine Emperor. The coins minted under Constantine IX (1042-1055) are in Choice Extremely Fine condition. Christ is depicted with a short beard, while the emperor carries a scepter in his right hand. On the reverse, the crown on the emperor's head is topped by a cross, as is the globe in the emperor's left hand, which represents the universal triumph of Christianity. The coins struck during the reign of Michael VII (1071-1078) are in Choice Very Fine condition. They were minted from electrum, an amalgam of gold and silver, giving them a lighter gold color than the pieces struck under Constantine IX. Christ is depicted with a longer beard, and on the reverse, Michael holds a labarum, which is staff topped by a banner inscribed with a Chi-Rho symbol (the first two letters of Christ's name in Greek). We are pleased to be able to offer these important early Christian coins at a surprisingly low price for gold coins nearly a thousand years old. It would be difficult to imagine a better gift for a Christian then one of these nine-centuries-old depictions of Christ in gold. It represented a substantial amount of money when it was minted, and holding it in your hand, it's virtually impossible to keep from wondering who else may have owned it over the past 900 years.
